He was not kidnapped by the Taliban (who even went as far as to deny involvment) but by a criminal gang. The motive in this instance was economical, not ideological. And a large number of Afghans with no relation to international organisations, foreign forces or the Government continue to be kidnapped as an income earning opportunity, not just aid workers.
