You are absolutely right.  The chance for a mutation that becomes a pandemic flu comes every time a human catches the flu from a bird.  But once that happens, it becomes a human-to-human epidemic that has far-reaching implications.  I'm sorry I didn&#39;t make that clear enough.

Humans are currently catching it for the most part from wild birds and that gives the virus more chances to mutates into a h2h form. That has already started. The virus now has an increased ability to survive in the upper airway of humans.
